This monumental and joyful canvas, presented with a presale estimate of $10,000,000 – $15,000,000, is recognized as one of the outstanding paintings from de Kooning’s late period, in which the pioneering Abstract Expressionist chose a new approach to harmony, balance, and light as his creative preoccupations. This is the first time that Milkmaid is available at auction.
