Domenico Gnoli: Detail of a Detail
Domenico Gnoli
Domenico Gnoli’s mature works are meditations on the singular, the granular. He interests himself in the detail: a snatch of fabric, a wisp of hair, a jot of leather. These rare paintings almost always depict some quotidian object – a button, a bed, a braid – but on a colossal scale. The ordinary is conjured into the extraordinary, the familiar into the fantastic. This catalogue, which accompanies the 2018 exhibition held at Luxembourg & Dayan in New York, includes essays by the artist Yannick Vu, and by Cecilia Alemani, curator of High Line Art and Frieze Projects. It also features a selection of works from the show alongside comparatives, as well as dozens of detail photographs to capture Gnoli’s intricate brushwork.
